How EZ Dock Can Be Attached to Other Docks

How EZ Dock Can Be Attached to Other Docks

If you currently own a wooden dock, you are already aware of their challenges. While they aesthetically enhance your waterfront, they are also vulnerable to the elements, are high maintenance and can be hard to modify.

If you are considering a dock extension platform, you will likely need to dismantle a portion of your wooden dock or forego the existing structure altogether. Consider making a significant upgrade with the modular EZ Dock.

modular EZ Dock will save you the stress and costs of disassembling your existing dock, as you can easily attach the extensions. Learn more with this helpful attachment guide.

What Is an EZ Dock?

An EZ Dock is a leading brand and pioneer of floating modular dock systems. Our products don’t require pilings or other attachment devices to keep them above the water. While they lack supporting structures, floating docks from EZ Dock feature an innovative coupler system that connects the sections, ensuring stability and shock absorption.

Unlike some floating docks that require plastic or rubber systems underneath, EZ Dock floats independently due to its polyethylene construction and innovative air-filled chambers that maintain buoyancy.

These modular docks are available as complete configurations or individual sections you can customize to meet your needs, like extending your wooden dock.

How Does EZ Dock Work?

Like other floating docks, EZ Dock relies on buoyant materials to float. However, EZ Dock systems don’t have pontoons, and the platforms are not made of wood or composite decking. Instead, our modular sections combine the decking surface and floatation structure in a single unit made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The construction features air chambers to enhance floatation as well as heavy, extra-thick walls for strength and stability.

The docks offer different anchoring options to keep them in place while in use. Connect the segments to the shore via gangways or stiff arm attachments to keep them steady. You could also use pilings or dead-weight anchors.

Benefits of Expanding Your Existing Structure With EZ Dock

If you are considering a dock extension, your choice of material matters as it impacts performance, longevity and aesthetics.

By selecting custom lake docks or river docks from EZ Dock, you enjoy the following benefits:

  • Durability and longevity: Our docking systems are made from high-quality, high-strength materials for durability and long-term use. The sturdy construction, featuring ultra-thick and heavy walls, is specially designed to withstand rough waters and bad weather, making the docks usable in all four seasons. EZ Dock sections are stronger and resistant to damage due to their flexibility and independent movement in bad weather.
  • UV- and impact-resistance: The 100% virgin LLDPE is flexible and less resistant to damage, allowing EZ Dock to withstand heavy impact. While LLDPE is inherently resistant to UV rays, we reinforce the material with UV-16 inhibitors for additional protection and an improved life cycle.
  • Customizations: Our docks are not set in stone. The modular nature and innovative build create endless possibilities that redefine customization. Our custom dock systems are meant to be anything you want them to be, from unique swimming platforms and custom boat docks to fully-fledged marinas. With our online dock planner, you can design the model you need.
  • Easy installation: Modular floating docks are easy to install since they don’t require shore modifications and building materials. EZ Dock comes in sections that are ready for use once you attach them using their coupler systems. The process usually takes a day or less.
  • Low-maintenance: EZ Dock doesn’t chip, warp, peel or rot. You won’t need to paint it to maintain its appearance. These qualities distinguish it from traditional wooden docks, which are vulnerable to all of these issues and require frequent and costly repairs. Our modular docks are easy to clean with only soap and water and can last decades with minimal upkeep.
  • Barefoot friendly: Our docks feature a unique texture that improves traction, making them slip-resistant. Since they don’t splinter like wood and transfer less heat, they are safe and comfortable to walk on while barefoot.

Connecting EZ Dock to a Wooden Dock

How to make your dock bigger? The simplest answer is making the extensions with the modular docks from EZ Dock. Connecting these systems to an existing wooden dock is easy, cost-effective and offers plenty of customization.

Attaching the EZ Dock Sections

With your existing dock ready for extensions, you’ll need to attach the EZ Dock sections to connect easily to the areas of your current structure that need extending. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to join EZ Dock sections:

  1. Insert the coupler bolt inside the coupler.
  2. Align the bolt head into the coupler’s notched pockets and drive the bold in using a hammer.
  3. Fit the coupler onto the in-water installation tool with the bolt facing upward.
  4. Align dock sections to match coupler pockets. Using the in-water installation tool, drive the coupler into the bottom pocket underwater, pulling upward to fit it in place.
  5. Insert the top coupler into the top pocket, thread on the coupler nut and secure the connections.

With your existing dock ready for extensions, you'll need to attach the EZ Dock sections to connect easily to the areas of your current structure that need extending.

Connecting to Your Existing Dock

Attaching EZ Dock sections to your wooden dock may require professional assistance to ensure proper connection and robust installation. If you have a stationary deck, bring in a technician to establish a proper transition to a floating section.

However, if you have a floating wooden deck, you can create the attachment yourself using the floating dock to EZ dock adapter. The stainless steel adapter is designed to attach an EZ Dock product to any floating structure.

Here are the tools you need to install the adapter:

  • #4 Phillips Screwdriver
  • 15/16 socket
  • 9/16 socket
  • Ratchet
  • Wrench

Installing the adapter involves the following steps:

  • Position the hardware connectors in place and insert the adapter J-hook component, securing it with 5/8” nuts.
  • Install the adapter plate on the existing floating structure.
  • Position the slots on each piece, slide in the hinge pin and secure it with the pin clip.
